Carolina Reaper - chili seeds
The seeds from which the Carolina Reaper was grown come directly from its breeder, Ed Currie. When discussions about its cultivation began in 2012, it was only then that it was considered that it could be the hottest pepper in the world. At that time, there was also frequent speculation that HP22B was a hoax, and many considered it to be a variety of 7 Pot Primo. The heat, which Ed had tested regularly, was already 1,474,000 SHU, surpassing the officially hottest pepper, Trinidad Scorpion Butch Taylor. However, there was no official confirmation that Ed could use to gain recognition and attention from the media and the global chili scene.
And that was exactly what Ed needed, because his investment in the chili farm had cost him almost 10 years of his life and more than $500,000. Winning the title and worldwide fame among chili enthusiasts proved to be an excellent source of income.
